Facade Program

The Facade Restoration Program's goal is to help local business and building owners preserve and rehabilitate the exteriors of their properties, to preserve the economic viability of our historic downtown, and to improve the appearance of the Town of Mount Airy business district.

The program makes funds available for interested downtown commercial property owners and their tenants to improve the appearance and soundness of their building facades.  Restoration funds offer an incentive dollar amount up to 50% of the total cost of facade rehabilitation in return for the participant's 50% or greater investment in facade improvements.

MAMSA's program is funded by the State of Maryland through the Department of Housing and Community Development.  Designs are submitted to MAMSA, reviewed, and forwarded to the DHCD.  After review and concurrence by the Maryland Historic Trust, the applicant may start the facade project.

MAMSA's Facade Restoration Program is one of the most successful.  We enjoy one of the highest percentages of owners and tenants participation of any municipality in the State.
